Effective Date: October 22, 2026

This AI Disclaimer (referred to in our Terms of Service as the Scam Coach Disclosure) is part of our Terms of Service. Please read it before you use the Scam Coach web application (the “App”).

1. What the App Does

You upload a screenshot, or paste the text, of a message that concerns you: an email, a text, a social media message, a voicemail transcript, or something similar. Automated systems, including artificial intelligence, then point out characteristics of the message that are worth checking (for example, the sender’s address, where a link actually points, or pressure to act quickly) and suggest steps you can take to verify the message on your own. The App identifies characteristics to examine; it does not determine whether a message is legitimate.

2. What the App Does Not Do

  • It does not tell you a message is safe. The App never says that a message, caller, website, or request is safe, legitimate, genuine, or trustworthy, and it never produces a safety score, rating, grade, or verdict. If you ever see language like that, it is not from us.
  • It does not tell you a message is a scam. The App may point out warning signs, but it does not and cannot determine whether any message is fraudulent or whether any person or company has done anything wrong.
  • It does not catch everything. The App can miss scams, including new ones, and it can flag legitimate messages. Its results can be incomplete or wrong.
  • It is not a reason to act, or to ignore a warning. A result from the App is never a reason to click, call, reply, pay, or share information, and never a reason to disregard a genuine alert from your bank, your carrier, or another institution. The answer is always the same: verify through a channel you find yourself.

3. How To Verify

Do not use any link, phone number, email address, or reply option contained in the message itself. Instead, contact the company or person through a channel you locate independently: the phone number on the back of your card, the number or website on a statement you already have, or an address you type in yourself. If a message involves moving money, buying gift cards, cryptocurrency, or sharing account information, stop and call your bank or the institution directly before doing anything else. If you believe a crime is in progress, call 911.

4. What Not To Upload

Before you submit a screenshot or text, crop or remove: passwords and PINs; security, two-factor, backup, and recovery codes; full card or account numbers; Social Security or taxpayer identification numbers; driver’s license or other government identification; medical or health information; and anything else whose exposure could harm you or another person. The App needs to see the message, not your private details.

5. What Happens To What You Upload

Your submission is processed by automated systems, including an artificial-intelligence provider we contract with, solely to generate your result. It is processed transiently and is not retained after the result is delivered, and it is not used to train artificial-intelligence models. Because submissions are not kept, we cannot retrieve them for you later. Our Privacy Policy has the details.

6. Educational Information Only

The App, like everything else we offer, is educational. Its results are not legal, financial, tax, insurance, investment, cybersecurity, or other professional advice, and using the App does not create a professional relationship with us. Every decision about what to do with a message remains yours.

7. The Site Assistant

If you use the chat assistant on our website, the same rules apply: it provides general educational information, it does not evaluate specific messages or tell you whether anything is safe, and you should not enter passwords, account numbers, or other sensitive information into it.
